Sweden Vows to Defend Airspace After Drone Incidents
Sweden's prime minister vows to defend Swedish airspace with force if necessary following drone incidents at Scandinavian airports. The government confirms anti-drone systems are already operational at multiple airports amid rising regional security concerns.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has responded to recent airspace violations in NATO countries and Monday's drone alerts at Copenhagen and Oslo airports. He confirmed Sweden already operates anti-drone systems at several airports.
Kristersson described Monday's events as extremely serious. He stated Sweden has the right to defend its airspace with force if necessary.
"Sweden has the right to defend its airspace, with violence if needed, and we will defend it," Kristersson wrote in a statement to media.
The prime minister also revealed he has spoken with his Danish counterpart about the security situation. These incidents come amid increased regional tensions following multiple airspace violations in Nordic and Baltic regions.
Sweden's strong response signals growing concern about aerial security threats. The country appears to be taking a firmer stance on border protection as security challenges mount in Northern Europe.
Monday's drone alerts caused temporary disruptions at two major Scandinavian airports. Aviation authorities increased security measures following the incidents.
Sweden completed its NATO membership process earlier this year. The country now participates fully in the alliance's collective defense arrangements.
