A 25-year-old woman was struck by a tram at the Älvsborgsgatan stop in Gothenburg. Police and ambulance services responded quickly to the scene. The woman appears to have escaped serious injury but complained of neck and back pain, according to police spokesperson Johan Håkansson.
Police received the emergency call at 7:50 AM about a traffic accident involving a pedestrian and a tram. The woman remained conscious and able to speak despite her injuries. Emergency medical teams arrived promptly at Älvsborgsgatan to treat the injured woman.
She has now been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Police continue to investigate how the accident occurred and what caused it.
Gothenburg's tram system is one of Scandinavia's most extensive, carrying over 100 million passengers annually. Such incidents remain relatively rare given the system's scale and daily operation. Safety measures at tram stops have been under discussion in recent years as the city's population grows.
