Berg municipality has launched a campaign using posters, postcards, and social media to persuade people who live in the municipality but are registered elsewhere to sign up, SVT reported. The municipality must report its population on 1 November.
Each resident is calculated to bring in 85,000 kronor per year in tax revenue and state grants.
"They live here, but are registered in another municipality," Jenny Nylund, the municipality's business manager, told SVT. "We are now working hard and fast to get those who live here but have not registered here to do so," she said.
Nylund said she dreams of 100 new Berg residents, which would give the municipality eight to nine million kronor. "100 is of course a lot, but just 10 new residents means a lot for a small municipality," she said.
The campaign is aimed at two groups. One group is students, including those in nursing education, who live in Berg, but few of them are registered there. The other group is people who spend most of the year in their holiday homes.
Nylund said many do not know what registration means for the municipality. "They may think it is only about the mail," she said.
