A man in his 70s was found dead in a residence in Ockelbo on Monday, and a woman suspected of murder has been detained on probable cause, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a press release, according to Expressen and Aftonbladet.
The death prompted a large police operation in the town, with several patrols focused on a single residence. A preliminary investigation into murder has been opened. Probable cause is the higher degree of suspicion under Swedish law.
"The investigation is at an early stage and the police are now working to establish what happened through interviews and technical examinations," chamber prosecutor Malin Thörnvall Hillbom said in the press release.
The prosecutor declined to comment further on what occurred, citing confidentiality rules covering preliminary investigations.
By Thursday at 12:00, the prosecutor must decide whether to request that the woman be remanded in custody or released. SVT reported that the deadline is no later than 29 October.
SVT also reported from the residential area where the operation took place.
