Multiple people suffered injuries after loud explosions shook the Swedish city of Gävle on Saturday evening. Police confirmed the incident involved several casualties but could not provide exact numbers immediately. Authorities have cordoned off a large area in the Brynäs district as investigations continue.
Police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin described the situation as serious. "We have several injured people, though I cannot confirm the exact count at this moment," he stated. "We have established a large security perimeter around the area."
Officials are treating the case as a major crime. Emergency calls first started coming in shortly after 8 PM local time.
A massive police response is underway in Brynäs, with multiple ambulances dispatched to the scene. Authorities are now seeking witnesses who might have observed the events.
"We have reason to believe there are people who witnessed what happened," the police spokesperson added.
This incident follows another violent event in Gävle just three weeks earlier. Six people were shot in the city center during that previous attack, leading to the arrest of a 13-year-old boy near the crime scene.
Gävle sits approximately 170 kilometers north of Stockholm, Sweden's capital city.
In a separate development Saturday evening, reports emerged of a shooting in Rinkeby, northwest Stockholm. Police confirmed one person suffered gunshot wounds in that incident.
"One person has been injured by gunfire," a Stockholm police spokesperson said. "We naturally suspect this involves criminal activity."
The severity of the shooting victim's injuries remains unclear. These back-to-back violent incidents in different Swedish cities raise concerns about public safety patterns in the region.
Sweden has been grappling with gang-related violence in recent years, particularly in urban areas where explosive devices have become increasingly common in criminal conflicts.
