A hunter discovered a body in the Luumäki forest two weeks ago. Police suspect it belongs to a 62-year-old woman who disappeared in August. Authorities first reported the woman missing on September 9.
The Southeast Finland Police declined to comment on the discovery. Police Commissioner Petri Korpisammal said the investigation remains sensitive. He confirmed they cannot share additional details at this time.
Korpisammal noted that requests for public observations remain active. Police continue seeking information about the woman's movements between August 18 and August 24.
Authorities arrested a suspect in the case on October 3. The South Karelia District Court ordered the detention. According to reports, the suspect is the victim's husband.
Police describe the missing woman as being of normal weight and approximately 170 centimeters tall. They also seek information about the suspect's vehicle from August 18 through September 29.
The vehicle is a dark 2006 Toyota Avensis station wagon. Police particularly want sightings from the Luumäki and Ylämaa areas.
Investigators ask anyone with information to email tips to vihjeet.kaakkois-suomi@poliisi.fi. The case appears to involve domestic violence escalating to fatal consequences, a pattern seen in similar investigations across the region.
Luumäki is a municipality in southeastern Finland's South Karelia region, known for its extensive forest areas and sparse population.
