Police in Häme have dismantled a major criminal organization operating in Lahti, Finland. The drug trafficking network distributed approximately 70 kilograms of amphetamine and acquired 6 kilograms of cocaine for distribution.
Häme Police Department completed an extensive criminal investigation resulting in 23 criminal suspects being forwarded for prosecution. The case involved 10 serious drug offenses, multiple drug crimes, serious weapons offenses, and firearms violations.
Toni Käyhkö, the lead investigator and police commissioner, described this as one of the largest drug cases ever uncovered in the Lahti area. The criminal group consisted of 12 suspects, all Finnish citizens aged between 20 and 50 years old.
Police confiscated dangerous firearms and ammunition during the investigation. The group also controlled large quantities of addictive prescription medications including Subutex, Xanax, Tradolan, and Tramal. This suggests the network participated in widespread illegal distribution of pharmaceuticals.
The criminal operation generated estimated profits between 1.4 and 1.8 million euros. The group maintained highly organized activities from early 2024 through early 2025. Members carried out carefully planned tasks at different stages of drug acquisition and distribution.
Investigators noted the organization used encrypted messaging applications for communication within the group. This allowed for secret coordination of their illegal operations.
This case highlights how sophisticated drug networks continue to operate in Finnish cities despite police efforts. The scale of prescription drug trafficking alongside traditional narcotics shows diversification in criminal enterprises.
