A serious traffic accident occurred near the Rælingen tunnel outside Lillestrøm on Monday morning. Emergency services responded to the scene at 4:45 AM after a rear-end collision.
Police confirmed one person was transported to Ullevål University Hospital for treatment. The incident happened on the approach to the Rælingen tunnel heading toward Lillestrøm.
"The accident appears serious," said operations manager Endre Metteson Aulie of the East Police District in a statement. Authorities have closed one lane while they investigate the crash scene and clear the roadway.
The Rælingen tunnel is part of a major transportation route connecting communities east of Oslo with the capital region. Such closures typically cause significant delays during morning rush hours as commuters seek alternative routes.
Road safety remains a persistent challenge on Norwegian highways, particularly during early morning hours when visibility can be poor and driver fatigue may play a role in collisions.
