The railway line between Kristiansand and Nelaug in southern Norway closed temporarily on Sunday afternoon. A train experienced technical failure and became stranded between stations. The incident occurred on the Sørlandsbanen line, one of Norway's main rail connections.
Rail infrastructure operator Bane Nor confirmed the situation in a statement. "I can confirm there's a fault with a train set stuck in a curve between Oggevatn and Grovane stations," said press contact Anna Langhammer. "The train cannot continue under its own power."
Crews initiated measures to transport the disabled train to Vennesla station. Another train will tow the stranded equipment from the tracks. Langhammer warned this process would take time and cause delays throughout the section.
"I ask travelers to follow information from their train company," Langhammer stated.
Train operator Go-Ahead announced cancellations on its website due to the problems. The company said it was working to arrange alternative transportation for affected passengers.
The Sørlandsbanen connects southern Norway to the capital Oslo and serves as a vital transport corridor. Technical failures on this line frequently disrupt travel plans for both commuters and long-distance travelers. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges facing Norway's railway infrastructure during peak travel periods.
