Emergency services launched an early Sunday morning search in Storvannet lake in Hammerfest after a UTV drove into the water. The vehicle has been recovered from the lake. Divers found no people inside during their search operation.
Police made contact with two individuals involved in the accident. Both had left the scene on their own before emergency crews arrived. Medical personnel are now evaluating their condition at the location.
Operations leader Øyvind Johnson Holsbrekken confirmed the water search has concluded. Neither person sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident.
Hammerfest is a northern Norwegian coastal city located above the Arctic Circle. UTVs, or Utility Task Vehicles, are commonly used for transportation and recreation in Norway's rugged terrain.
This incident highlights the risks of operating motor vehicles near water bodies in remote Arctic regions, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be limited.
