BankID services became unavailable across Norway on Tuesday evening. The problems started just before 5:00 PM local time.
Service disruptions appeared in an operational message on the service's website. BankID is Norway's primary digital identification system used by millions of citizens.
Press contact Hege Steinsland confirmed the situation. "We are working on the issue," Steinsland said in a statement.
The outage affects numerous essential services throughout the country. Users cannot log into their online banking accounts. Private services and government websites also remain inaccessible without BankID functionality.
This marks another service disruption for Norway's critical digital infrastructure. BankID serves as the main authentication method for most Norwegian online services. The system handles everything from bank transactions to tax filings and healthcare access.
Service reliability remains crucial when digital identification becomes mandatory for daily life. Millions of Norwegians depend on BankID for both personal and professional activities every day.
Technical teams continue working to restore full functionality. No estimated resolution time has been provided to the public yet.
