Emergency services responded to a building fire in Hestehagen, Drøbak on Thursday. Flames engulfed the roof of the structure as smoke filled the area.
Police operations leader Endre Metteson Aulie confirmed the severity of the situation. "We have reports of full fire in the roof area," Aulie stated. "Several people may have inhaled smoke."
Authorities evacuated 19 residents from the affected building. One person required hospital transport to Akershus University Hospital for smoke inhalation. Several others received medical checks at the scene.
Police assured nearby residents there was no danger of the fire spreading. The cause remains under investigation, with officials noting it's too early to determine origins.
Local residents received instructions to keep windows closed due to heavy smoke. Drøbak, located approximately 35 kilometers south of Oslo, is a coastal town known for its historic center.
Building fires in Nordic countries often draw rapid response due to concentrated urban areas and cold climate considerations. The immediate evacuation likely prevented more serious injuries in this incident.
