A severe fire erupted in a multi-family apartment building in central Helsingborg on Monday evening. Four people required hospital transport following the blaze. Emergency services received the alarm at 7:40 PM local time.
Flames shot through the windows of one apartment, according to rescue service officials. Firefighters evacuated the entire building as a safety measure.
By 11:00 PM, firefighting operations were largely complete. One person was found unconscious at the scene. The other three victims remained conscious and able to speak, according to the rescue commander.
Mattias Johansson, the officer in charge of rescue services, confirmed the victims' conditions in a statement. He noted the unconscious individual received immediate medical attention.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenge of building safety in older urban structures. The rapid response prevented what could have been a much worse outcome in the densely populated city center.
