High Alert in Norwegian 'Orange Municipalities' as Storm Approaches

Four Norwegian municipalities remain on high alert as severe weather approaches. Nordre Land, Søndre Land, Etnedal and Sør-Aurdal participated in emergency meetings today. The meetings addressed the incoming storm expected tomorrow.

Authorities issued orange-level warnings for rain, flooding and landslides in these areas. Orange represents the second-highest danger level in Norway's color-coded alert system. Other parts of Innlandet county received yellow or green warnings, indicating lower risk levels.

Police warned residents to avoid steep slopes, streams and riverbanks. Ground saturation levels already remain extremely high from previous rainfall. Officials expect multiple landslide incidents across the region.

Several municipalities increased emergency preparedness levels. Crews inspected vulnerable locations including drainage systems and water infrastructure junctions. Emergency services stand ready to respond to weather-related incidents.

The timing creates particular concern as many Norwegians travel for summer holidays. Heavy rainfall on already saturated ground dramatically increases landslide risks. This situation shows how climate change intensifies weather extremes even in typically stable regions.
