A major water leak has left large sections of Köping without running water. The incident occurred on Karlsdalsgatan street near the local rescue service station.
Crews have shut off water around the leak area. Repair work will begin as soon as possible, according to officials.
Charlotte Enarsson, a spokesperson for the water utility, said in a statement that crews are working to restore service. "We are now building up pressure in the network again," Enarsson explained. "It is unclear how long this will take, but we are working to get water back in people's taps as soon as possible."
The immediate focus remains on restoring water pressure throughout the system. Residents in affected areas should prepare for continued water outages.
Köping, located in central Sweden's Västmanland County, has a population of approximately 18,000 people. Water infrastructure issues during cold weather periods are not uncommon in Swedish municipalities.
For ongoing updates, residents are directed to check the local water utility's website. The situation highlights the vulnerability of aging infrastructure in smaller Swedish cities.
