A substantial water leak has flooded several properties in the Ljura district of Norrköping, Sweden. Basements and garages stand underwater as emergency crews work to contain the situation.
Rescue services received the alarm at 2 PM local time. They expect to remain on site for several more hours.
Daniel Asp, the officer in charge of rescue operations, described the scale of the incident. "This is a major water leak with substantial impact," he said in a statement. "We are pumping out water and building barriers to reduce the inflow."
Emergency crews coordinate with Norrköping's water authorities to provide immediate assistance. The operation faces practical challenges despite having adequate pumping equipment.
"Even with good pumps, we need somewhere to discharge the water," Asp explained.
The exact number of affected buildings remains unclear. The flooded area spans approximately 400 meters where water continues to flow.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to sudden water system failures. The extended response time suggests more complex underlying issues than a simple pipe burst.
