Wheelchair user found dead in Oulu home as murder trial begins

A wheelchair-using middle-aged man died in his Oulu home last May in a suspected homicide. A 22-year-old man now faces murder charges for the killing.

The suspect called emergency services himself after the incident. Police found the victim deceased in his apartment and arrested the young man immediately.

During police interviews, the accused admitted causing the man's death but denied the murder charge. His defense lawyer described the situation as sudden and explosive. The attorney said his client became nervous during a rapid escalation.

The fatal incident occurred in Oulu's Korvensuoro residential district on Saturday, May 24. The emergency call came in around 4 PM. The caller reported someone had been injured with a sharp weapon in a private residence.

The victim occasionally used a wheelchair and knew the suspect through family connections. Though officially registered in Haparanda, Sweden, the 22-year-old had been active around the Oulu region.

The accused has an extensive criminal record. Recent years brought convictions for aiding aggravated robbery, endangerment, and firearms offenses. This pattern suggests concerning behavior that escalated tragically.

The trial continues this week in Oulu District Court. Local residents express shock that such violence occurred in their quiet neighborhood.
