Police in Southwest Finland have captured a motorist who fled from officers during a pursuit that killed a bystander. Authorities took the suspect into custody over the weekend following Friday's deadly incident.
The fatal collision occurred when a civilian vehicle turned into the path of a police car during an emergency response situation. Police had attempted to stop the car for inspection on Friday evening, but the driver refused to pull over.
Instead, the motorist fled toward Rauma along Highway 8. The suspect has admitted to escaping from police during questioning.
Investigators are treating the case as aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. They also suspect the driver of drunk driving, operating a vehicle without authorization, and resisting police.
