A 26-year-old man from Joensuu has been arrested in connection with last Thursday's fatal pedestrian accident. A woman in her thirties died while crossing at a marked crosswalk in Joensuu on Thursday, October 23. The driver of a BMW struck her and then fled the scene.
Police later apprehended the suspected driver and two other individuals who were in the vehicle. Authorities confirmed three people aged 20-30 were in the car at the time of the incident.
The District Court ordered the 26-year-old man detained on Tuesday. He faces serious charges including aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated manslaughter, and fleeing a traffic accident scene.
Police continue to investigate the movements of the black BMW Coupe and its occupants both before and after the collision. The vehicle features distinctive reddish wheels.
