A man without a driver's license was caught speeding at 151 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Norway's E39 highway. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Alver municipality, Vestland county.
Police stopped the driver in his 50s during a routine speed check. Officers immediately discovered he had no valid license to operate a vehicle.
Assistant District Chief Eivind Hellesund confirmed the case. "We are opening an investigation," he said. "The driver will be questioned at a later time."
Police could not explain why the man lacked proper documentation. They also did not know what explanation he offered at the scene.
This case follows a recent pattern of extreme speeding in western Norway. Police have caught multiple drivers traveling between 150-160 km/h in recent weeks.
Hellesund expressed concern about the safety implications. "At these speeds, the consequences of an accident become very severe," he noted.
The E39 highway is a major transportation route along Norway's western coast. Speed limits are strictly enforced to protect drivers on the often challenging coastal roads.
Driving without a license carries serious penalties under Norwegian law. Offenders typically face heavy fines and potential imprisonment.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges with traffic enforcement in rural areas. Despite repeated warnings, some drivers continue to disregard basic safety regulations.
