Long queues formed on the E6 highway in Gothenburg during Thursday evening rush hour. The congestion stretched between Olskroken and Kallebäcksmotet in both directions. Multiple roadworks are causing disruptions during peak traffic periods.
Workers are replacing barriers between Kallebäcksmotet and Olskroksmotet. This affects traffic lanes in both directions. Construction vehicles remain on the roadway during work hours. Speed limits are reduced throughout the construction zone.
Simultaneously, utility and telecommunications work continues near Örgryte through Thursday night into Friday. The Örgrytevägen exit will close in the northbound direction between 10 PM and 6 AM.
Southbound exits toward Mölndal Norra, Kallebäck, and Liseberg remain closed from earlier work. These exits serve key residential and commercial areas in Sweden's second-largest city.
Additional major disruptions begin October 31 through November 3. The Götatunnel will close in one direction at a time during weekend hours. Work runs from 9 PM Friday to 5:30 AM Monday.
The tunnel initially closes toward Järntorget. Then it closes toward the city center between Saturday and Sunday nights. Traffic redirects through local streets between Järntorgsmotet and Stationsmotet.
Gothenburg's extensive highway renovations reflect Sweden's ongoing infrastructure maintenance challenges. The consecutive projects create compounding delays for the 600,000 residents navigating this major port city.
