Thick smoke from a basement in an apartment building brought emergency crews to Østergade in Nørresundby on Saturday evening. North Jutland Emergency Services deployed five vehicles and eleven firefighters to the scene. Authorities closed Østergade in the eastbound direction as smoke divers investigated the fire's cause.
The blaze was reported under control by 9:14 PM. It originated in a large industrial machine in the building's laundry room, according to the operation commander. Smoke spread through the basement and slightly up the staircase, but did not reach any apartments.
Fire crews immediately ventilated the stairwell as a precaution for potential evacuation. Fortunately, residents never needed to leave their homes. Smoke divers quickly contained the basement fire, and no injuries were reported.
By 9:30 PM, crews remained onsite clearing residual smoke from the building. The laundry room sustained considerable damage from the blaze. This incident highlights the fire risks associated with shared laundry facilities in multi-story buildings, though the prompt response prevented more serious consequences.
Nørresundby is a urban area connected to Aalborg via the Limfjord Bridge, making rapid emergency response crucial in this densely populated region.
