An explosion shook an apartment building courtyard in Malmö's Rosengård district Tuesday night. Police confirm no injuries but report structural damage to buildings. Bomb disposal units are investigating the scene.
An explosion occurred in the courtyard of an apartment building in Rosengård, Malmö on Tuesday evening. Police received multiple calls about a loud bang shortly after 11 PM.
No injuries have been reported according to police authorities. Officers have cordoned off the area at Von Lingens väg for investigation.
"We have blocked off the area and have technicians and bomb disposal units on the way," said Jerker Olsson, the police officer in charge.
Police patrols searched the neighborhood before locating the explosion site. The blast caused material damage to nearby apartment buildings.
"There is shrapnel damage to several building facades and some glass sections of a stairwell have been shattered," Olsson confirmed.
The National Bomb Protection Unit has been called to assist with the technical examination. Police are conducting various investigative measures.
"We are examining addresses in the surrounding area to identify any individuals who might be potential targets," Olsson explained.
As of early Wednesday morning, no suspects had been arrested. The investigation continues to determine the cause of the explosion and identify any potential threats.
Rosengård is a district in Malmö, Sweden's third-largest city located in the southern Skåne region. The area has approximately 25,000 residents.
