Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed cautious optimism about Trump's Middle East peace proposal. He described the glass as half full regarding the 20-point plan presented on Monday.
The plan was unveiled by former US President Donald Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kristersson noted positive reactions from several Gulf states and called the proposal unexpectedly ambitious.
He said the plan attempts to address the terrible situation in Gaza. Many observers see it as Trump's attempt to reestablish his foreign policy credentials ahead of elections.
The Swedish leader emphasized that Hamas hasn't yet responded to the proposal. He called their position a crucial puzzle piece that will serve as a first litmus test.
Kristersson stressed the unconditional demand for releasing all hostages remains fundamental. The international community now watches whether Hamas will engage with this initiative or reject it outright.
